Message from the President

Welcome to Research & Resources. This is our second issue and we hope our focus on research and outreach will open vistas for readers interested in exploring crucial issues of the day.

The projects highlighted in this magazine cross a wide array of research areas, from lasers to health care. They also cross a variety of disciplines from our many colleges. Dr. Vimal Chaitanya, the vice president for research, graduate studies and international programs, has done an excellent job of pulling these diverse groups of activities together and that is reflected in the breadth of research covered in this issue of Research & Resources.

Research at NMSU touches the lives of real people in many areas of the world. Our outreach extends from our own neighborhoods to places like China and the Middle East, where we are part of a team of universities working to rebuild agriculture in war-torn Iraq.
